JONATHAN'S FAVORITE ROUTES

After weeks of exploring the mountain, I put together a list of my absolute favorite routes for you, using only the ground that I covered in the past three weeks. Each route title links to the corresponding Strava route page. Get out there!

Routes: List

This loop gives you a little bit of everything, from the narrow turns of Matt Davis to the historic landmarks of the Mountain Theater and West Point Inn. Check out JMT4 to learn more. One of my personal favorites!

This route is a classic loop to the West Point Inn on Railroad Grade, one of my favorite and most frequented spots on the mountain. Some prefer to take Railroad Grade in both directions, but it's up to you! Check out JMT8 to learn more.

This route is tough with the gnarly Tamalpa Trail climb, but it is the most epic East Peak summit route around. Check out JMT7 to learn more. Get after it!

Hands down my favorite run of the project, this route is chock-full of awesome spots, single tracks and more. You won't see a water fountain out there, so come prepared, and be ready for an epic adventure. Check out JMT17 to learn more, and get going!

This one way trip brings you from the Railroad Grade gate all the way down to Stinson Beach on one of my very favorite trails, Matt Davis Trail. Take it in, and bring a bathing suit! Check out JMT18 to learn more.

Another awesome loop, this time following the upper edge of Muir Woods on Troop 80 Trail for much of the route. You'll swing by Pantoll Station, Bootjack Campground and West Point Inn along the way. Check out JMT5 to learn more, and get out there!

This is a fun little route that takes you all the way down into the neighboring town of Corte Madera for some flat fire road action before returning to the Mill Valley hills. Check out JMT16 to learn more.

This route features the steepest trail on the mountain, the aptly named Widowmaker Trail, in a climb to East Peak that you won't soon forget. Check out JMT13 to learn more.

This route is no different from the regular, iconic Dipsea Race, but it felt like it deserved a cool name. Definitely the most historic route around, this is not one to be missed. Check out JMT12 to learn more.

This loop features Hoo-Koo-e-Koo, Eldridge Grade and Railroad Grade as the key fire roads for most of the way and gets to the top of East Peak. It's a longer, more indirect route, but it's definitely one of my favorites. Check out JMT10 to learn more.

This classic out and back leads from the valley floor to the very top of the mountain at East Peak. It may not be the most direct run in the world, but it still is a great, gradual climb and doubles as an awesome hike!

This loop is a classic, with a great view of Mill Valley from above. You'll swing by Mayor's Lookout on your journey - check out JMT9 to learn more, and enjoy!

This sweet loop features the Dipsea Steps, Sun Trail, and Tenderfoot Trail and swings by a tourist club above Muir Woods. Check out JMT6 to learn more. A Mill Valley classic!

My favorite road running route around these parts, with a nice stretch of fire road on Myrtle. Check out my first post to learn more. Enjoy!

This Muir Woods loop is a cool one, and is certainly JMT's main "tourist route." Check out JMT11 to learn more, and enjoy!

Thank you to everybody who supported me in this project, most notably my project advisor, Lynne Hansen, informal project advisor Jon Bretan, the MA Faculty that ensured Senior Projects would still occur, my small but mighty Strava following and all the JMT guest stars along the way. No weaknuhs!
