JMT6: Adventure Time

Day 6 saw me take a rest day (from running) and saw Max Sarosi return as a JMT guest star as we ventured over to the other side of Panoramic Highway to check a few more trails and spots off the list.

I learned very early on that the Dipsea Steps are no place to be on a Saturday morning in the times of absurdly packed trails. The Dipsea Steps, our starting point today, mark the first climb of the historic Dipsea Race, which starts at the Mill Valley Depot and ends at Stinson Beach some 7 miles and 2,000 feet of climbing later. We followed the Dipsea through it’s three flights of stairs and to the Dipsea Trail marker on the opposite side of the highway, where we turned off to Sun Trail.

Sun Trail, a new one for me, was also pretty packed. It stays along the ridge, just below the road, passes through a cool tourist club, and ends up right back at Mountain Home Inn. When it’s out in the open, it offers some awesome views of what’s below, and I’m definitely excited to run this one in the future.

From Mountain Home, we started walking down Edgewood towards Tenderfoot, where we took what we thought was a trail over to Cypress Trail, but ended up being more of a deer track. Anyways, we ended up coming back up Cypress, which is similar to Tenderfoot but comes from the other side of Edgewood and meets up with Tenderfoot at the bottom, and arrived back at the top of the Dipsea Steps. We went back down the way we came up, called it a morning, and I went home and ate leftover spaghetti to cap off a solid Saturday morning. See you tomorrow!

Thank you to everybody who supported me in this project, most notably my project advisor, Lynne Hansen, informal project advisor Jon Bretan, the MA Faculty that ensured Senior Projects would still occur, my small but mighty Strava following and all the JMT guest stars along the way. No weaknuhs!
